The horse race is probably the last item on most people's list; the Hollywood crowd makes the headlines of the local papers for the weekend showing all of the stars wearing semi-traditional Southern attire which looks absolutely ridiculous. For the duration of the race, the gamblers at the track and the online casino gamblers place their bets and with their tickets in hand watch the race in anticipation. For the split second before the race is over, much like in online roulette when the ball is about to drop, everything and everyone is frozen except for the horses galloping to the finish line. The race finishes and all of the losers throw their tickets in disgust and the winners clamor vigorously and drink their mint juleps and smoke their cigars. Almost as soon as the race is over, the parties begin. This is when the celebrities and horse owners and millionaires and billionaires come out in their fancy attire and drink more mint juleps. The parties are the real reason the celebs come out for the derby. For the rest, it's just an excuse to be a lot of money on an exciting horse race.
