Almost all search engines now place a heavy emphasis on your site's Link popularity. Link popularity can be defined as a ranking system that involves measuring and ranking the number of links that are directed towards a particular web site. This helps a search engine to better determine the relevancy of your site to a particular search. After all, the more people linking to you, the better the likelihood that you are a good resource for the topic at hand.

You should aim to have at least 50 incoming links leading to your site. However bear in mind that its only relevant links that matter. The search engines want to see that your incoming links are coming from sites with content that relates to your site in some way...........
